Yin Yoga: a one hour Yin Yoga class begins with Suryanamascar A and B, then flows into a specific series of gravity-assisted postures that will focus on opening the hips, back and shoulders. The postures are held for at least 20 breaths, ending with Savasana. This class is a nice way to create balance in your overall yoga practice — working on breathing and proper alignment, while learning how to view discomfort objectively. As with all types of yoga, the practice of Yin Yoga culminates in the ability to comfortably sit in an upright posture for an extended period of time, enhancing one’s ability to go deeper into meditation.
A fundamental characteristic of Yin Yoga is the holding of poses for several minutes. While the most popular forms of yoga, like ashtanga or power yoga, are yang-emphasizing (rhythmic movement and muscular contraction), both Yin and Yang forms of exercise are necessary and supplement each other.
Tribal-Fusion Belly-dance is an experimental dance popular on the west coast. It usually incorporates a troupe of dancers moving together with one leader. The non-traditional element of music and costuming are signature in its style and set it apart from the more traditional Cabaret/Turkish style of belly-dance.
The class is a full-body, intense workout, which incorporates a yoga warm-up and cool-down. This ancient and sacred dance will tone the body and center the mind, bringing flexibility, strength, grace, self confidence and power to your life. Each week the hip, rib cage, head and torso isolations will be reviewed and expanded on. Hip locks, pops, circles and shimmies will be broken down and layered with arm and traveling combos.
